Writing Process
Lunes, Septiembre 27th, 2010
Among the four language skills (writing, reading, listening, and speaking) that we study in our English classes, writing is given great importance since a reasonable level of proficiency in any language implies a level of competence both in oral and written communication. Additionally, written practice reinforces oral proficiency and in ‘real life’ students need certain level of proficiency in writing that needs to be promoted from early years.
Through writing we are able to share ideas, arouse feelings, persuade and convince other people. We are able to discover and articulate ideas in ways that only writing makes possible.
Our students know that writing means discovering what they want to say and that following clear steps is necessary to obtain good results. Pre-writing, drafting, and proofreading are the basis for creativity and spontaneity. Revising the draft and reading the teacher’s comments help them work confidently in the last part of the process: publishing. Displaying what they have done is a form of sharing with others the ‘product’ of a long process which makes them feel proud of themselves.
