As an introduction to the reading and analysis of The Crucible, the famous play by Arthur Miller, the 11th grade students carried out some research on several aspects related to the book. Topics varied from the political background, McCarthyism and the Witch Hunt in the 1950’s in the USA to their connection with the Salem Witch Trials of 1692. The presentations gave the class insight on the dramatic situation which inspired Miller; this group work will certainly help the students to have a better understanding of the play.
